
For years, “big data” was the hot topic in business intelligence. Companies spent a fortune collecting huge piles of information and running algorithms to spot patterns and predict the future. The pitch sounded perfect: with enough data, you could anticipate what customers and markets wanted, nail your strategy, and stay ahead.

Silicon sampling starts to look pretty tempting in that world. It mimics primary research without the hassle or the price tag. There’s lots of “data” so the outputs look credible. The reports feel insightful. But it’s still just educated guesswork dressed up in AI clothing.
